
Mangaluru: The prestigious Canara Group of Educational Institutions, Mangaluru, celebrated its Family Day and Global Alumni Meet – 2025 in a grand manner on Tuesday at the Canara High School Main Ground, Kodialbail. The event became a vibrant platform for reconnecting with cherished memories and strengthening lifelong bonds between the institution and its alumni from across the globe.
Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Ganesh Nayak, who was the chief guest, spoke emotionally about his deep and unforgettable association with the Canara educational institutions. Recalling a moment when he was honoured by the institution years ago, he said it remains one of his most treasured memories. “I can never repay the debt I owe to this institution that shaped my life,” he said.
Dr. Nayak added that the alumni meet was an excellent initiative in line with the vision of the Canara management to bring back the diverse talents nurtured by the institution and to transform young minds into enlightened human resources. He praised Canara institutions for their dedicated teachers who mould creative students and contribute meaningfully to society. He noted that alumni of Canara institutions have excelled as doctors, technologists, scientists and entrepreneurs across the world, thereby elevating the institution’s reputation. The meet, he said, offered a valuable opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, meet former classmates and teachers, and reflect on their life journeys through fond memories.
Mukund Kamath, Managing Director of Ideal Ice Cream Pvt. Ltd., speaking on the occasion, said that Canara institutions are deeply committed to providing value-based education and building strong futures for students. He shared that multiple generations of his family have benefited from the institution. He highlighted the institution’s role in preparing students for future challenges through various meaningful and sensitive initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Ranganath Bhat, Honorary Secretary of the Canara Management, said the programme aimed to reconnect alumni who studied at the institution and are now pursuing their professional lives in different parts of the world. “This is a golden opportunity to meet revered teachers and relive unforgettable memories. Teaching is not merely a profession but a noble sacrifice, and the fruits of that dedication are reflected in the towering growth of this institution,” he said.
Well-known Mangaluru industrialist Panchamal Gopalakrishna Shenai attended the event as a special guest. All dignitaries were felicitated on the occasion.
A special cultural highlight of the programme was the Mandarthi Mahadevi dance ballet, presented by Arehole Prathisthana, which received warm appreciation from the audience.
Among those present were Suresh Kamath, Vice-President of the Canara Management; Ranganath Bhat, Secretary; CA Vaman Kamath, Treasurer; management members Vikram Pai and Ashwini Kamath; PRO Ujwal Mallya; and Gopalakrishna Shetty, in-charge of the alumni meet.
The programme began with a welcome address by Gopalakrishna Shetty, Dean of Canara Pre-University College, while PRO Mrs. Ujwal Mallya proposed the vote of thanks.
