
Mangaluru, Sept 9: The 28th death anniversary of Saint Mother Teresa will be observed in the city with a district-level seminar at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall on September 11. The event is being organised by the Mother Teresa Vichara Vedike, Mangaluru, under the theme ‘Let Love Spread Everywhere.’
The seminar will deliberate on ‘Threats to Co-existence and Challenges in Democracy’ and will be inaugurated by Prof. Purushothama Bilimale, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, Bengaluru. Eminent writer Dr. K. Shareefa and Bishop Emeritus of Mangalore, Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, will attend as chief guests. The programme will be presided over by Roy Castelino, president of the Forum.
As part of the day’s programme, a harmony song session titled ‘Preetiya Sinchana’ will be presented by Ektaari singer Nada Maninalkuru. On the occasion, tribal leader and social activist Kariya K, who has worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the Koraga community and is a recipient of the Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Award will be felicitated.
The Vedike, which was established eight years ago, has been actively promoting communal harmony and social awareness through events such as Souharda Deepavali, Souharda Christmas, Iftar gatherings and Samarasya Dasara. It has also organised children’s workshops under the banner ‘Chinnara Kalarava’ in keeping with Mother Teresa’s love for children. The organisers have appealed to the public to participate in large numbers and make the event a meaningful tribute to the Mother of Love.
At the press meet held to announce the programme, several community leaders and representatives were present, including Santosh D’Souza Bajpe, President of Catholic Sabha, Mangalore Pradesh, Ilyas Fernandes, Vice President of the Forum, Manjula Nayak, President of Samarasya, Mangalore, Dalit youth leader Rakesh Kundar, social thinker Rehman Khan Kunjattabail; women’s leader Sumathi S. Hegde, along with Dolfy D’Souza, Wilma Montero, Jyothi and other Vedike members.
